Our Mission
Our passion is to create and install beautiful, sustainable gardens using plants native to the Mid-Atlantic region. Our gardens are aesthetically pleasing, well-designed native plant ecosystems that are as much of a delight to their human owners as to the creatures who live, dine and work in them.
We are a full-service, experienced landscape design group dedicated to native plants. Since 2013 we have designed hundreds of beautiful, tailored, sustainable gardens in Northern Virginia, D.C. & Maryland. Our gardens are biodiverse, and thoughtfully designed, to meet both our client’s needs and style and the conditions of their site. Although plants are our passion, we also plan and install all elements of a successful garden environment, including trails, walkways, patios and stairs.
Our philosophy is that everything in our gardens needs to work hard, providing both beauty and ecological function.

Native Plant of the Month: New England Aster
New England aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) is a native perennial wildflower to NoVA, thriving in meadows, roadsides, and open woodlands. In September, it comes into full bloom, displaying vibrant purple to pinkish-lavender petals with bright yellow-orange centers. This late-season bloomer provides nectar for migrating monarch butterflies and a variety of native bees when few other flowers are in bloom. Its tall, bushy form and vibrant colors make it quite the standout in fall landscapes.

Horticultural Tip of the Month: Planting Season
September is the ideal time for planting in NoVA due to our cooling temperatures and more consistent rainfall, reducing stress on new plants. The warmer soil helps to encourage strong root development before winter dormancy, helping perennials, trees, and shrubs establish properly. Fall planting encourages healthier and stronger plant growth for spring the following year.

Invasive Plant of the Month: Tree of Heaven
Tree of heaven is an aggressive invasive species in NoVA. In September, it produces large clusters of winged seeds (samaras) that are easily spread by wind, helping in its quick and widespread reproduction. Even as its leaves begin to change and drop for the season, the tree continues to send up new offshoots, making it very difficult to control.
